After a season full of uncertainty that included a one-month period with no games due to coronavirus-related concerns, Wallington capped its year with a 28-14 victory on the road over Emerson Boro.
Junior quarterback Billy Ricci threw for a touchdown and rushed for two others, including a 12-yarder to give the team a permanent lead in the third quarter. Ricci then doubled the lead with a 17-yard touchdown completion to Logan Torres in the fourth.
Emerson Boro was able to cut the deficit in half with a 76-yard touchdown pass from Frankie Savino to Tyler Reissner in the fourth quarter before Wallington put the game away with a 29-yard touchdown rush from junior Daniel Podstawski.
Scott Leuck had a 14-yard touchdown rush for Emerson Boro to even things up at 7 apiece after one, a score that remained on the board until halftime.
The win pushes Wallington’s record to 3-2, ending the tumultuous 2020 season with two consecutive victories in a six-day span after not playing any games from Oct. 10 to Nov. 13.
Emerson Boro falls to 5-2 with the loss, starting the year hot with five straight wins before losing two consecutive to end the season.
