Leesburg police: Homeowner shot would-be burglar as he entered home
FREEFALL, SENT US A STATEMENT NOT LONG AGO SAYING THEY SUPPORT EFFORTS TO MAKE CHANGES TO STATE LAW REGARDING RIDER SAFETY. IT SAYS "THE SAFETY OF OUR PATRONS ALWAYS COMES FIRST. OUR COMPANY IS NOT PLANNING TO OPEN A NEW RIDE AT ICON PARK, HOWEVER WE DO HOPE TO REOPEN THE SLINGSHOT RIDE, ONCE WE HAVE ALL THE NECESSARY APPROVALS FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE." IT GOES ON TO SAY THEY’RE WORKING TO GET ITEMS FROM TYRE’S MEMORIAL TO THE FAMILY. JIM: LEESBURG POLICE DETECTIVES SPENT HOURS AT A HOME ON FLORA VIEW LANE MONDAY. THEY SAY MONDAY MORNING, THE OWNER OF THE HOME SHOT A SUSPECTED BURGLAR. NEIGHBOR MARK HOSLER DIDN’T HEAR THE GUNSHOT BUT DID TALK TO THE HOMEOWNER AFTER IT HAPPENED, HE WAS, IT SHOOK HIM UP, HE WAS SHAKEN UP. AMANDA: ACCORDING TO POLICE TWO , SUSPECTED BURGLARS ENTERED THE HOME THROUGH A BACK SLIDING GLASS DOOR. THE HOMEOWNER SHOT ONE OF THEM. THAT SUSPECT WAS TAKEN TO A NEARBY TRAUMA CENTER, HAD SURGERY AND WAS ADMITTED TO THE ICU. THE SECOND SUSPECT RAN OFF AND A MANHUNT OF THE SURROUNDING AREA WAS UNSUCCESSFUL. POLICE SAY THEY ARE LOOKING FOR A SLIM-BUILT MAN WITH LIGHT COLORED SKIN BETWEEN 5’8 AND 5’9. HE WAS REPORTEDLY WEARING A BLACK HOODIE AND TAN SHORTS. THE HOUSE WHERE THE SHOOTING OCCURRED IS DAMAGED BY A TREE THAT NEIGHBORS SAY FELL ON SATURDAY. THEY SPECULATE THAT DAMAGE MAY HAVE LED THE SUSPECTS TO BELIEVE THE HOME WAS EMPTY. >> WITH THE TREE ON TOP OF THE ROOF AND NO CAR ON THE DRIVEWAY, IF YOU HAVE GUYS LOOKING AROUND TO STEAL STUFF, IT PROBABLY LOOKED LIKE A SAFE TARGET. AMANDA POLICE SAY A SIMILAR : BURGLARY OCCURRED AT THE HOME A WEEK AGO, AND FOR THAT REASON, THE HOMEOWNER HAS BEEN STAYING AT THE PROPERTY. A SPOKESMAN FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT TOLD ME AT THIS POINT, THEY DO NOT BELIEVE THE HOMEOWNER WHO SHOT THE SUSPECTED BURGLAR WILL FACE CHARGE
