Leesburg police: Homeowner shot would-be burglar as he entered home
Leesburg police say a homeowner shot a would-be burglar Monday.
Detectives were called to Flora View Lane just before noon.
Police say the homeowner shot one of two men as they entered the residence.
According to Capt. Joe Iozzi, the suspects entered the home through a back sliding glass door.
The would-be burglar who was shot was transported to a local trauma center for treatment and the homeowner was uninjured.
The second suspect has not yet been caught.
Police say they are looking for a slim-built man with light colored skin between 5'8" and 5'9". He was reportedly wearing a black hoodie and tan shorts.
The home involved has a downed tree laying across the roof.
Neighbors say the tree came down in a storm this past weekend and they speculate the fact that the home was damaged may have led the suspected burglars to believe no one was living there.
Police say the home was the target of a similar burglary about one week ago, and for that reason, the homeowner had been staying at the property.
Detectives say it does not appear the homeowner will face charges.
