The governor said there are nine new cases as of Monday in Boone County, six in Kenton County, one in Campbell County and one in Grant County. There were seven new deaths on Monday. None of those were from Northern Kentucky, but there is a lag in reporting between local health departments and the state totals.

Update, 5:15 p.m.: Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said during Monday's daily afternoon update that a 10-year-old is currently on a ventilator.

"It's important to know that this virus has reached one of our young ones," Beshear said.

Dr. Steven J. Stack, the commissioner of the Kentucky Cabinet of Health, said there is a syndrome that causes young people infected to develop overactive immune systems.

"My heart goes out to the young man and his family so that he can have a full recovery," Stack said.
