ON a day of major upsets at the horse racing in Sakhir yesterday, outsider Donny Rover was the biggest winner as five of the seven favourites bit the dust.
Donny Rover, owned by Fawzi Abdulla Nass, trained by Fawzi Nass and ridden by Jacob Butterfield, caused the biggest upset of the day when it pipped favourite Potentate by a neck to win the richest race of the day - for the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for imported horses which carried a cash prize of BD10,000.
Tom Hark was third and Muraweg fourth.
The second richest race of the day was also won by an outsider when Karma Chameleon, owned by EERC, trained by Fawzi Nass and ridden by Harry, stunned favourite Fadhaa by half-a-length to win the Shaikh Faisal bin Khalid Al Khalifa Cup which carried a cash prize of BD4,500.
Among Equals was third and Sivlersmith fourth.
The day began badly for the favourites as Fire Princess, owned by Al Nasseriyeh, trained by Alan Smith and ridden by Tristan Normand, beat Mohaayehad by a head to win the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for locally bred horses which carried a cash prize of BD3,000.
Silver Wood was third and Calamity Jane fourth.
Upset
Socialite, owned by Haitham Salah A Latef, trained by Abdulla Kuwaiti and ridden by Mohammed Saeed, followed suit for the second straight upset when it beat Tickity Boo by a neck to win the Shaikh Abdulla bin Khalid Al Khalifa Cup which carried a cash prize of BD3,000.
Tishreen was third and Shanar fourth.
Favourite Al Jellaby 1434, owned by Al Jasra, trained by Yousif Taher and ridden by Abdulla Faisal, broke the jinx when it beat Al Saqlawy 1564 by three-fourth-length to win the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for Arabian horses which carried a cash prize of BD2,000.
Al Krush 1614 was third and Krayaan 1646 fourth.
Bon Voyage, owned by Husain Bukaman, trained by Ramzi Al Baqlawa and ridden by Ali Al Showaikh, was another upset winner when it beat Chequers by a neck to win the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup which carried a cash prize of BD3,500.
Punk was third and Extroverted fourth.
Missour, owned by Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, trained by James Naylor and ridden by Andrew Elliott, was the only other favourite to oblige when it beat Namuthej by half-a-length to win the Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa Cup for locally bred horses which carried a cash prize of BD4,000.
Itizan was this and Blue Steel fourth.
