We're all suffering the consequences of barbers and hairdressers being closed, but one Plymouth man is taken the lockdock haircut to the extreme.

Michael Perry is one of the many people who had reached an unprecedented level of boredom whilst locked down over the last several months. Deciding he'd watched enough TV, he decided to get creative and try to raise some money for a charity close to his heart, Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

Now he has set his sights on raising £1,000 or more - and he's doing it by dying and decorating his overgrown beard and hair each day.

Michael's wife Jeanette decorates his hair and beard with different colour wash out hair dyes and other crafty bits, taking on the look of something completely different each day. Michael, in his 70s, has even been taking suggestions on what to decorate himself as next from followers of his Facebook page.

And it hasn't ended yet - Mike wants to keep going this weekend and from Monday - when the barber shops and hair salons are allowed to open again - he'll have it it all chopped off in stages, based on suggestions from his Facebook friends and followers.

Mike says he doesn't care how he looks, because he wants to raise as much money as he can for a brilliant charity, and he's making people laugh as he goes.

A charity fundraiser set up by Mike and Jeanette has already raised close to £500, with the aim being to double that by the end.

Mike said: "When we started the latest shut down I thought, 'Oh, here we go again'. I didn't know how long it was going to be for, and with the hairdressers being closed, I thought, 'Hang on a minute'. We all get a bit bored at the moment, and being the age I am we haven't been going out much because we don't want to take any chances. So I thought I'd do a charity thing using my hair and beard.

"I was quite happy to do whatever people wanted me to do with my hair, and that's what started it off basically.

"So basically, I've been pottering along, my wife's being doing me up with all different sorts of hair and styles. We tried to do a dog look today, and there was a lot of face paint involved in that one."

Mike jested that all the different looks and paints have made his face rather sore, but he's adamant to keep going for a brilliant cause.

He added: "She painted my face and my beard, and then we had to get it all off, but it's been fun and loads of people have enjoyed seeing it on Facebook each day I think."

Mike said that he's pleased that his fundraising efforts have reached the states, with a friend of Mike's from across the pond donating £50 today.

"If people donate, I don't care what an idiot i look, I'll do whatever's necessary," Mike said.

He continued: "Every penny is more than welcomed, I'm more than happy because I've made a few people laugh and raised a bit of money for an excellent charity.

Mike is set to start cutting off bits of his hair, piece by piece each day, from April 12 when the barbers and hairdressers are allowed to open up.
