PRESTON — During a special town election on March 3, Preston residents elected their first African American female commissioner. Winston won the race 33 votes to 14.
"I think having a presence on the Commission will spark some connectivity and I can be an encouragement to get more residents involved in community care and activities," Winston said. "When I received the call that I had won the election, I was elated and truly humbled by the response of the votes of confidence from the town residents."
Winston is an Eastern Shore native who grew up in Jonestown, near Preston, and is a 1990 graduate of Colonel Richardson High School. She now lives in the town of Preston with her son and owns a small business in town, VanTech Business Solutions, which deals with aiding individuals and other business’ administrative needs. The business has been in town for four years.
