State troopers: 2 killed, 2 injured in crash at Clayton intersection

CLAYTON — Two people were killed and another two were injured following a two-vehicle crash at a busy Clayton intersection Tuesday afternoon, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Crews were called to the intersection of Hoke Road and Salem Avenue around 4 p.m. Tuesday following the crash involving a Cadillac sedan and a pickup truck.

Toya Martin, 51, of Dayton, a passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene, state troopers said. Tonia Cranford, 51, of Dayton, the driver of the car, died from her injuries at the hospital.

A child in the backseat of the car was transported to Dayton Children’s Hospital for treatment. The driver of the pickup truck, identified as Jeffery Cox, 63, of Dayton, was transported to Grandview Medical Center. The conditions of the child and Cox were not released.

The Cadillac was headed north on Hoke and was through the intersection at 49 when the truck, headed west on 49, hit the passenger side of the Cadillac, according to the preliminary investigation.

A crash reconstruction team was requested to the scene to investigate the crash.
