Bahrain triathletes were honoured for winning the best amateurs team award during the closing ceremony of the Ironman African Championship held in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
His Majesty the King’s Representative for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, Bahrain Olympic Committee President and Bahrain Endurance 13 Team captain Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa attended the closing ceremony.
Shaikh Nasser stressed that qualifying for the world triathlon championship next September is a new step towards more successes for Bahraini triathlon and ironman sports, adding that the next phase would require serious preparations and huge efforts to maintain the gains attained by the team so far. He also highlighted that winning the best team award in the amateurs category, eight triumphs in the individuals race and the achievement of Bahrain Endurance 13 Team which won the the pros category have reaffirmed the good reputation of the kingdom in international triathlon sports.
Shaikh Nasser said the remarkable performance shown by the Bahraini team in the championship has gained the appreciation of the organisers, participants and spectators. He said the team members would begin their preparations for the world championship, which will take place in Croatia next September, and will undergo extensive training sessions to ensure the continuation of the kingdom’s international achievements.
He added: “the good results accomplished in South Africa prove the positive performances of the team and its technical capabilities. Team members will continue to offer their best in international tournaments and championships and promote the Kingdom of Bahrain in international sports arenas.”
