Stratford Coronavirus Update: Town Resident Dies

STRATFORD, CT — A Stratford resident has died after contracting the new coronavirus, according to an email Saturday from the mayor's office. The death marks the first virus-related fatality in Stratford.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the individual's family in this difficult time," Mayor Laura Hoydick said in the email to residents.

The patient who died was between ages 60 and 69, according to Director of Health Andrea Boissevain, who said she did not have any additional information about the deceased.

As of Saturday, there were 56 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus in town, according to Hoydick. Patients ranged widely in age, although 41 of the people confirmed to have the virus were age 40 or older.

The new coronavirus has been spreading for weeks across Fairfield County and the state. As of Saturday, there were 5,276 confirmed cases in Connecticut and 2,824 cases in Fairfield County, according to state data. The virus was associated with the deaths of 165 Connecticut residents as of Saturday.
