Boulder County Coronavirus Update: 167 New Cases Confirmed

BOULDER COUNTY, CO — Over the past week, 167 new cases of the coronavirus have been confirmed in Boulder County, according to public health data.

Comparison with previous weeks:

• Week ending July 30: 148 new cases reported
• Week ending July 23: 98 new cases reported
• Week ending July 16: 126 new cases reported
• Week ending July 9: 71 new cases reported

As of Thursday, 2,031 people in the county had tested positive for the virus since the outbreak began. The death toll has reached 74.

Around 766 people have recovered and 186 have been hospitalized since the outbreak began, according to Boulder County Public Health. More than 32,476 people have been tested in the county.

The agency released the following municipal breakdown of case numbers in the county, which include both probable and confirmed cases as of Thursday:

In unincorporated Boulder County, 17 new cases have been reported over the last week, and there have been 153 cases since the outbreak began, the data shows.

Over the past month, Longmont has had the highest rate of cases per 100,000 people, but over the past two weeks, Boulder has surpassed Longmont:

• Longmont: 712.6
• Lafayette: 666.7
• Louisville: 590.1

There were 25 new coronavirus cases reported in Boulder County July 13— the highest one-day new case increase since the spike in mid-June, which was linked primarily to large gatherings, health officials said.

Until July 13, there had been a "steady plateau" of new cases, averaging 12 to 13 per day, according to Boulder County Public Health. Before a spike in mid-June, there were only about five new positive tests among Boulder County residents reported each day.

Boulder County has lowered the age of people required to wear masks in public indoor spaces, officials announced July 24. Previously, everyone older than 12 was required to wear masks in public anywhere social distancing couldn't be maintained, but the age has lowered to those over 10.

Over the past week, more than 3,200 new cases of the coronavirus have been reported in Colorado, according to public health data.

As of Thursday, 49,436 people have been infected with the coronavirus in our state among 568,127 people who have been tested since the outbreak began, health officials confirmed. Around 6,572 people have been hospitalized, and the death toll has reached 1,729.
