Tropical depression 072319 morning

Tropical Depression Three is expected to stay offshore and dissipate on Wednesday, forecasters said.

Update: The depression dissipated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, the National Hurricane Center said.

A tropical depression is moving north in the Atlantic just off the east coast of Florida, forecasters said Tuesday morning. The storm does not pose a threat to Louisiana.

The system is not expected to strengthen to a tropical storm, but if it does, it will be named Chantal.

As of Tuesday morning, the depression was 40 miles east of West Palm Beach, Florida, and 55 miles northwest of Freeport, Grand Bahama Island.  It had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph, the National Hurricane Center said.

The storm was moving north at 12 mph between southeastern Florida and the northwest Bahamas. It could drop up to 3 inches of rain across the Bahamas on Tuesday.

Forecasters said the center of the depression should remain off the coast of the southeastern United States through Wednesday. It's expected to dissipate Wednesday.
