QUINCY – Walgreens and Chicago-based medical management company VillageMD will open a primary care clinic inside the pharmacy at 418 Quincy Ave. in early May, the first of 10 clinics the partnership hopes to open in the state.

Anita Allemand, chief transformation and integration officer of Walgreens Boots Alliance, said the Village Medical clinic will be a physician-led primary care facility that offers annual physicals, treatment for chronic conditions and lab tests.

She said the clinic will improve the community's access to primary care and serve people of all ages. On average, each clinic will include eight exam rooms and a lab for medical testing including blood work and urinalysis.

"The goal is to see someone through the course of their lives with all their chronic conditions," she said.

The clinic will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. No emergency services will be provided.

Craig Prince, a family nurse practitioner, and Dr. John Breda are two of the care providers for the Quincy location.

Other locations to open by 2023 include Weymouth and Rockland. The company estimates the 10 clinics combined will create 350 full-time jobs in the state.

Walgreens and VillageMD announced in July 2020 that they would begin a large-scale rollout of the in-pharmacy clinics after opening five trial clinics in the Houston area in November 2019.

The company is pushing to open between 500 and 700 Village Medical clinics at Walgreens pharmacies across the country by 2025. Most of the clinics will be about 3,300 square feet, with some as large as 9,000 square feet.
