One dead, two others injured in crash near Parkston, SD

The passenger of a 2007 Ford Mustang, who authorities say was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

PARKSTON, S.D. — A 51-year-old woman died in a two-vehicle crash Sunday, Sept. 26, east of Parkston.

Two others were injured in the crash, which occurred at about 4:05 p.m. on South Dakota Highway 44. The South Dakota Department of Public Safety said a 2014 Chevrolet Cruz was headed west when the driver failed to follow a roadway curve and the vehicle crossed into the eastbound lane.

The driver of that vehicle was a 19-year-old woman. She suffered serious non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Parkston's hospital. She was not wearing a seat belt, according to officials.

The other vehicle involved was a 2007 Ford Mustang, and the driver was a 59-year-old man. He sustained serious non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Parkston hospital. The passenger, who authorities say was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Charges are pending against both drivers. Names of the people involved are not being released at this time, pending notification of family.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
