Summit Mall Welcomes New Stroller Fitness Class

From Bandy Carroll Hellige: Summit Mall is known for its plethora of retailers and dining– now it can also be a go-to place for fitness. This summer, Summit Mall is offering its first-ever stroller fitness class. BrittFit Stroller Cardio will be held on Fridays from 9 to 10 a.m. from May 5 to July 7.

Fairlawn-area moms and dads are invited to transform their strollers into portable fitness machines. Mall fitness classes similar to this one have been popping up more frequently throughout the nation. BrittFit, LLC, a local company that offers specialty family fitness classes, is bringing the trend to Summit County.

“Focusing on yourself can be the hardest thing for parents,” explains Brittany Gerstenslager, owner of BrittFit, LLC and instructor of stroller cardio. “I created these classes so that families don’t have to decide between spending precious time with their children and working out to benefit their own health; they can do both!”

BrittFit Stroller Cardio combines strength-training and cardiovascular drills in a circuit and interval format, giving parents the unique opportunity to bond with their baby and other families in a fun, supportive environment. Throughout the one hour class, participants perform strength and cardio exercises using the strollers as a form of resistance.

“We are ecstatic to offer this new fitness and bonding opportunity to area families,” said Heather Taylor, director of marketing and business development at Summit Mall. “We know it can be difficult to balance personal health and good parenting, so we’re combining the two for an exciting new program.”
