CINNAMINSON, NJ — Veterans will have the first crack at affordable housing units that will soon be built in Cinnaminson following actions taken by the Township Committee Monday night.

Township Committee approved a proposed Memorandum of Understanding between the township and Habitat for Humanity for between four and six affordable units on Belleview Avenue Monday night. Veterans will be given first preference for these homes, officials said.

Four of the units will be built at 816 South Belleview Avenue, which is currently owned by the township, according to Municipal Land Attorney Linda Galella.

The township will subdivide the land and donate it to Habitat for Humanity, which will build two duplexes, Galella said.

There are also plans for 810 South Belleview, which is adjacent to 816, but there are outstanding taxes on that property.

“I am currently doing a tax sale and foreclosure on that property,” Galella said. “When I’m done, Habitat for Humanity will be able to do two more units for low- and moderate-income families. The units will be marketed to veterans. We will give them preference.”

Cinnaminson was the site of Habitat for Humanity’s first Veterans Build on Inman Street back in 2015. That site was set aside for a two-bedroom, two-family home specifically for veterans.

Between 2014 and 2018, there were nearly 30,000 veterans living in Burlington County, according to the U.S. Census.

The units on Belleview will be deed-restricted for 30 years, Galella said.
