Issuers and sellers of disability insurance have come into the 2020 Disability Insurance Awareness Month campaign facing a persistent source of frustration: lack of worker awareness of the idea of income impression.

But MetLife has new survey data suggesting that many U.S. workers place a high value on disability benefits.

The company fielded an online survey of 3,795 U.S. full-time workers, ages 18 to 62, in April.

MetLife asked, for example, for survey participants to talk about “what employer-offered benefits or programs would best support them or a loved one if they or a family member as unable to work due to a serious illness or injury” during the COVID-19 pandemic, or a future pandemic.’

Disability insurance came in first, with 50%, of the participants saying disability insurance would be helpful.

Family and caregiver leave ranked second in terms of popularity, and access to health savings accounts or flexible spending accounts ranked third.

MetLife also asked the survey participants about the benefits that might increase their motivation to stick with their current employers after returning from a leave of absence.

Here are the five most popular “stick with current employers” benefits:

  • Health insurance: 52%
  • Disability insurance: 26%
  • Family and caregiver leave benefits: 26%
  • Financial wellness programs: 25%
  • Dental insurance: 25%
