Tottenham could sign £80m Wilfried Zaha after ‘shift’ in their transfer policy, claims former manager Tim Sherwood

Tim Sherwood says reported Tottenham target Wilfried Zaha is not worth £80million, but believes Spurs could sign him anyway.

The 27-year-old Crystal Palace forward has been linked with moves across London to Spurs and Chelsea, with the player keen to make the step up from Palace to a bigger club to play Champions League football.

Zaha has even changed his agent to help get him a move, after Palace turned down two big bids from Arsenal and Everton last summer.

The Eagles have stood firm on their £80m valuation and that has appeared to rule Tottenham out of the running, with the north London club notorious for not spending big on players under chairman Daniel Levy.

But Sherwood believes their philosophy in the transfer market has ‘shifted’ with the appointment of Jose Mourinho and the club could start 'spending to win' rather than nurture young players.

Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the former Tottenham player and manager said: “Everyone would want Zaha... but for £80million I’m not sure everyone would want Zaha.

"Certainly Daniel Levy wouldn't at that price and at that age.

“He’s a good player, we all know that.

“It all depends what the philosophy is at the club now, whether they’re looking to bring their young players through or whether they’re looking to spend to win.

“It all depends on how they’ve shifted. I know how the club was when I was there and when Pochettino was there, and I think in bringing Jose in there has been a shift there.

“We’ll perhaps see that now in the transfer market.”
