Michelle Obama says the only way to see her family is with the COVID-19 vaccine

Former first lady Michelle Obama said the only way for people to have a gathering with her family is if they have received the coronavirus vaccine.

“You wanna hang out with us? Get your vaccine,” Obama said during a Sunday interview with CBS. “Get all of it. Finish it up. And then we can talk. So I urge everybody out there within the sound of our voices, please, please get the vaccine. It’s time.”

When asked about people that have expressed skepticism in the safety of receiving the vaccine, the former first lady assured viewers the medicines were safe.

“All I can say is that I have tried to live a life where I don’t lie to people,” Obama said. “And the science behind a vaccine is the same science that’s behind aspirin and insulin.”

While Obama received her vaccine shot in March, polling shows that about one-third of people in the United States remain skeptical of the vaccines. The resistance to vaccines has continued to vex health officials, many of whom see the shots as a way to finally beat back the pandemic.

Obama has been one of the most prominent public voices urging people to get vaccinated, reaching out directly to the country’s younger demographic in a TikTok video last month that urged young people to “get the vaccine as soon as you can.”

The former first lady also touched on some of her new hobbies, admitting that it was easier for her to focus on leisure activities now that a new administration has entered the White House.

“And let me tell you, it helps to have our President Joe Biden in office,” Obama said before taking aim at former President Donald Trump.

“Because, you know, when you have a responsible, mature president in office, it makes it even easier for us to move on to the next phases of the work that we do,” Obama said. “Because we’re not sitting and worrying every day about what’s gonna happen next, but there’s still plenty of time to do some good.”
