Hungry? How to order meals using Uber Eats, Grubhub

Imagine this: It's dinnertime, but the fridge is desolate.

You're craving Chinese or Italian or fast food, but don't want to leave the comfort of your home.

The solution? Ordering delivery through one of the numerous apps on your smart phone. 

Uber Eats and Grubhub are two nationally recognized food delivery services that have made their way into the Salisbury area. But how does it all work? 

Lucky for you, we did the hard work to find out. 

What is Uber Eats and Grubhub?

Both companies offer phone apps or websites where customers can order food from their favorite restaurants and have it delivered to their door. Uber Eats and Grubhub are both third party services, so there are additional varying delivery fees. 

Most of the restaurants, if not all, listed on both applications don't offer their own delivery services. This makes the services the perfect middle man, bringing you meals you'd otherwise have to go pick up yourself. 

What restaurants are on the apps?

We used Delmarva Now's office in downtown Salisbury to look for what restaurants were available for delivery. 

The eateries selection vary by cuisine, so customers can choose from a variety of options. Choices range from sit down restaurants to fast causal to drive-thrus. 

On Grubhub, some of the restaurant options include Manna Asian Cuisine, The Greek Pita Place, Specific Gravity and Ruby Tuesday. Uber Eats options include Roadie Joe's Bar and Grill, Pablo's Bowls, Greek Pita Place and Pemberton Coffee House. 

Some of the restaurants, like Greek Pita Place, overlap on both apps. Fast food chains like McDonald's and Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen also double up. 

Will they deliver to me?

This is where it gets tricky. 

Really, the best way to see if one of the delivery apps will bring food to you is simply by putting in your address. We found that Uber Eats delivered to our downtown office, but options thinned out further north in Salisbury and south toward Fruitland. 

For Grubhub, options across Salisbury seems about the same, no matter where your address is listed. 

Will the apps add more restaurants or expand their delivery area?

Uber Eats is clearly still growing its footprint in the Salisbury area, according to an spokeswoman for the company. 

Customers can expect more restaurants coming to the app which could adjust the delivery footprint.

"We add restaurants every week to Uber Eats markets. As more restaurants get added to the platform it's likely that our coverage will expand accordingly," she said.

The services offer apps able to be downloaded onto smart phones or check out the Uber Eats website or the Grubhub website.
