Ypsilanti kindergartners can join Spanish immersion program in the fall

A new Spanish immersion program offered by Ypsilanti Community Schools beginning this fall will focus on teaching students Spanish in the early stages of their education, beginning with a curriculum that is 90% Spanish and 10% English during the first year of the program.Image provided | Ypsilanti Community Schools

YPSILANTI, MI - Carlos Lopez thought it was a perfect fit for the district when he learned Ypsilanti Community Schools families were interested in a dual language Spanish immersion program.

The YCS assistant superintendent has spent much of his 40 years in education as a director of the Office of Bilingual Education and Related Programs, helping districts like Detroit Public Schools, Oak Park School District and River Rouge School District teach innovative immersion programs that helped students learn Spanish at a young age.
