Wardell Westbrooks, 76, of Jefferson City, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2020, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born on October 29, 1943 in Aberdeen, Mississippi, a son of the late Coleman Westbrooks and Roxanna Ward. He attended Aberdeen High School. He began working at a young age and eventually moved to St. Louis where he worked at the Green Foundry for many years. In 1976 he came to Jefferson City and began a career as a correctional officer for the State of Missouri. He retired in 2002 after 26 years of service. Wardell loved to play cards, listen to Motown, go dancing, visiting with friends and family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his children: Sheila Owens, Wardell Chambly, Janice Chambly, Wanda Chambly, and Somonia Westbrooks; siblings: Idella Hodges, Rebecca Sumrall, Sarah Reynolds (Michael), Daniel Gore and Walter Gore (Denise); and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Wardell was preceded in death by his sons: Coleman Chambly and Ronald Vail; brothers: Booker T. Lockridge, Robert "Doc" Harris and James Gore; and nephews: Justin Westbrooks-Chambly, Dominick Chambly and Maleek Chambly. Family and friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, October 31, 2020 at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Memorial Services will follow at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, it is requested that expressions of sympathy be made to the Samaritan Center.
