Virginia Sees 755 New Coronavirus Cases, Positive Rate At 4.5%

As of Wednesday 263 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in central Virginia, followed by 209 hospitalizations in Northern Virginia.

VIRGINIA — The Virginia Department of Health reported 755 new cases of the coronavirus statewide on Wednesday, bringing the cumulative total to 148,271 cases. There have been 3,208 deaths and 11,041 hospitalizations.

Among the new cases reported Wednesday, 213 cases were reported in the southwest region, 152 in the northwest region, 144 in the northern region, 142 in the eastern region and 104 in the central region, according to the VDH. As of Wednesday, the seven-day average of new coronavirus cases was 812, up from 779 on Monday.

The total of PCR tests completed in Virginia stands at 2,049,988, up 10,478 from Tuesday. The seven-day average of positive PCR tests is 4.5 percent, which is below the 5 percent rate recommended by the World Health Organization before reopening.

Hospitalizations of COVID-19 patients stand at 911 statewide as of Wednesday. That included 190 in the intensive care units and 104 on ventilators, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. Ventilator use stands at 20 percent among all Virginia patients, and ICU occupancy stands at 79 percent. There are no hospitals reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment in the next 72 hours.

Across Virginia, 263 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in the central region, 209 in the northern region, 207 in the eastern region, 151 in the southwest region and 81 in the northwest region.
