Virginia Sees 755 New Coronavirus Cases, Positive Rate At 4.5%

VIRGINIA — The Virginia Department of Health reported 755 new cases of the coronavirus statewide on Wednesday, bringing the cumulative total to 148,271 cases. There have been 3,208 deaths and 11,041 hospitalizations.

Among the new cases reported Wednesday, 213 cases were reported in the southwest region, 152 in the northwest region, 144 in the northern region, 142 in the eastern region and 104 in the central region, according to the VDH. As of Wednesday, the seven-day average of new coronavirus cases was 812, up from 779 on Monday.

The total of PCR tests completed in Virginia stands at 2,049,988, up 10,478 from Tuesday. The seven-day average of positive PCR tests is 4.5 percent, which is below the 5 percent rate recommended by the World Health Organization before reopening.

Hospitalizations of COVID-19 patients stand at 911 statewide as of Wednesday. That included 190 in the intensive care units and 104 on ventilators, according to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association. Ventilator use stands at 20 percent among all Virginia patients, and ICU occupancy stands at 79 percent. There are no hospitals reporting difficulty obtaining personal protective equipment in the next 72 hours.

Across Virginia, 263 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in the central region, 209 in the northern region, 207 in the eastern region, 151 in the southwest region and 81 in the northwest region.

• Alexandria: 3,852 cases, 323 hospitalizations, 69 deaths; increase of 11 cases and two hospitalizations
• Arlington County: 3,995 cases, 500 hospitalizations, 150 deaths; increase of 10 cases and one hospitalization
• Fairfax County: 20,981 cases, 2,160 hospitalizations, 588 deaths; increase of 57 cases, four hospitalizations and two deaths
• Fairfax City: 137 cases, 14 hospitalizations, eight deaths; one case removed
• Falls Church: 70 cases, 13 hospitalizations, seven deaths; no changes
• Loudoun County: 6,889 cases, 435 hospitalizations, 125 deaths; increase of 38 cases, three hospitalizations and one death
• Manassas: 1,931 cases, 130 hospitalizations, 26 deaths; increase of five cases, one hospitalization and one death
• Manassas Park: 614 cases, 55 hospitalizations, eight deaths; removal of two cases
• Prince William County: 12,567 cases, 915 hospitalizations, 205 deaths; increase of 26 cases, two hospitalizations and two deaths
• Fredericksburg: 547 cases, 49 hospitalizations, five deaths; increase of one case
• Spotsylvania County: 2,153 cases, 134 hospitalizations, 44 deaths; increase of two cases
• Stafford County: 2,028 cases, 160 hospitalizations, 17 deaths; increase of four cases and two hospitalizations
