Truck driver charged with DWI, drug paraphernalia after Route 287 crash into tractor-trailer

A Sussex man allegedly crashed his truck into a tractor-trailer multiple times Wednesday afternoon while intoxicated.

HANOVER -- A Sussex County man is facing DWI and drug paraphernalia charges after, State Police say, he repeatedly crashed his pick-up truck into a tractor-trailer on Route 287 Wednesday afternoon.

At about 2:14 p.m., state troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a pick-up truck and a tractor-trailer on Route 287 North at mile-marker 39.6, State Police spokesperson Capt. Stephen Jones said. It was reported that the pick-up truck had crashed into the tractor-trailer multiple times, he said.

No one was injured in the crashes, but the driver of the pick-up truck -- Daniel Devine, 31, of Sussex -- was exhibiting signs of impairment when troopers arrived, Jones said.

Prescription pills were found in his pick-up truck along with a straw that had suspected drug residue, the police captain said.

Devine was arrested and charged with DWI and possession of drug paraphernalia, Jones said.

The police report didn't indicate whether the prescription pills had been legitimately prescribed to Devine.
