Marksmen lose at Roanoke, 3-1

A staff report

ROANOKE, Va. — Lincoln Griffin's goal midway through the third period gave Roanoke the spark it needed to topple Fayetteville, 3-1, in Southern Professional Hockey League action Thursday night.

Roanoke (4-10-2) downed the Marksmen (11-3-1) for the first time in six meetings this season. Fayetteville returns to action Friday and Saturday nights with home games at the Crown Coliseum against Knoxville (9-7-1).

A second-period, power-play goal by former Fayetteville player Austin Daae gave Roanoke a 1-0 lead.

Griffin's goal at 10:35 of the third would be all the Rail Yard Dawgs would need. Brian Bowen's score at 16:06 cut the margin to 2-1, then Roanoke's Josh Nenadal added an empty-net goal with six seconds remaining.
