400 pieces of jewelry seized by NOPD up for auction
Nearly 400 pieces of gold and jewelry seized by the New Orleans Police Department are going up for auction. Crescent City Auction Gallery President and auctioneer Adam Lambert said the unique auction includes items for sale that are all part of property seizures madeby local law enforcement agencies several decades ago. The auction, which will take place Friday, will begin at 1 p.m. and will feature hundreds of pieces of jewelry, including high-end watches, pendants and chains. “This type of auction is fairly rare, at least for CCAG,” explains Lambert, who says he believes the 162 lots for auction, some of which contain multiple pieces of jewelry, will sell for about $100,000. “It was fascinating to go through all the items, as there are hundreds of pieces of jewelry that had to be reviewed, and we found some very high-end pieces that we believe will experience competitive bidding during the auction.” Lambert specifically pointed out an 18-karat yellow gold Yellow Gold Rolex Oyster day-date wristwatch with diamond chapter marks and a diamond bezel, mounted with 35 seven-point round diamonds, and a 14-karat white gold necklace with 83 prong-set round diamonds as two of the items that will sell quickly. The watch is expected to bring in between $6,000 and $9,000 and the necklace $3,000 to $5,000. The proceeds from the auction will be shared among various law enforcement agencies. In addition to Friday’s auction, Lambert says the gallery will also auction, Saturday and Sunday over 1,000 lots of other antiques and fine arts from several local estates including an English George III sterling and cut crystal cruet set, which is expected to bring in between $3,000 and $5,000; a 1909 sculpture proof by Boris Oskarovich Frodman-Cluzel (1878-1969), titled Ballet Dancer, with a pre-sale estimate of $6,000 to $9,000; and an oil on board painting by Hovsep Pushman (1877-1966), titled Still Life of Metal Flagon and Bowl (1920), signed, and dated and is estimated to sale between $3,000 to $5000. The additional proceeds should be just under a half-million dollars. The auction will be held at Crescent City Auction Gallery at 1330 St. Charles Ave. To bid online click here.
