EGF Receptor Genes
Although associations between polymorphisms in genes related to the EGF receptor (EGFR) pathway are mainly described for treatment with monoclonal antibodies (see bevacizumab, cetuximab and panitumumab), some polymorphisms in these genes have been investigated in two studies regarding their impact on the risk of recurrence after combined 5-FU-based chemoradiation.[41,53] The only significant association reported was an increased risk of recurrence in patients with the homozygous wild-type genotype of the IL-8 gene.[41] Other genes in the pathway investigated did not show any significant associations.
