Cops arrest man who allegedly tried to rape mom pushing baby

Police arrested the shirtless man who allegedly tried to rape a young mom as she was pushing her baby in a stroller, police officials said Friday.

Cops busted Ernest Burkett, 35, on Wednesday night for the Sept. 4 attack, police said.

Burkett allegedly approached the 20-year-old woman with her child on the New England Thruway overpass at Steenwick Avenue in Eastchester shortly after 8 a.m., police said.

He allegedly forced the mother to the ground and pushed the stroller away from them, police said. He then fondled her breasts while trying to kiss her, cops said.

The man tried pulling his victim’s pants down, but stopped short when he saw someone approaching them, cops said.

The NYPD’s 47th Precinct announced the arrest in a tweet, stating: “Hello friends, we are happy to report that an arrest has been made in this case. Many thanks for all the public’s help and the hard work of the Bronx Special Victims Squad and Bronx Warrant Squad. @NYPDSVU @NYPDDetectives”

Burkett, who lives more than an hour away in Peekskill, was charged with attempted rape in the first degree, felonious sex abuse and acting in a manner injurious to a child less than 17, police said.
