Drive-by shooting being probed in Baldwin County

Sep. 19—There has been another drive-by shooting in Baldwin County.

The latest such crime happened early Wednesday.'

No one reportedly was injured in the latest shooting incident that happened shortly before 3 a.m. at a residence on the 100 block of Richard Street S.E.

As of Friday afternoon, there were no reports of arrests in the case.

The shooting remains under investigation by detectives with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office.

Several bullets were fired at the residence about 2:50 a.m., according to an incident report filed by Deputy Benjamin Johnson.

While en route to the call, Johnson said he received information through a 911 dispatcher that a woman who had reported the shooting had seen someone at her back door, who reportedly had been shot.

But when Johnson got to the scene and looked around, he didn't find anyone.

The deputy detected that a rear sliding glass door had been shattered by what appeared to have been caused by a bullet hitting it.

Johnson said he talked with the woman who reported the shooting. The deputy said the woman told him she was asleep in bed with her boyfriend when they heard between eight or nine gunshots.

The woman said she got up and saw where the rear sliding glass door had been shot out. The woman went on to say she never actually saw anyone on her porch, but she thought she heard someone outside.

Johnson said the woman's mother and her three children were all asleep at the time of the crime, too.

"While checking the residence further, I observed what appeared to be three bullet holes in the blinds on the back door, and two bullet holes in the wall on the front of the residence," Johnson said in his report.

The deputy said he found what appeared to be a 9mm projectile on the floor of the living room.

While looking outside the residence, Johnson said he saw a total of seven Luger 9 mm shell casings in the roadway. They were found in front of the residence.
