Michigan surpasses 58,000 coronavirus cases; deaths now at 5,570

Michigan has surpassed 58,000 cases of coronavirus and has surpassed 5,500 deaths. 

An additional 304 cases of COVID-19 and 17 deaths were reported by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services on Wednesday. 

Now, the state has 58,035 cases and 5,570 deaths.

Fatality rate: 10%

As of May 29, 38,099 people have recovered from the coronavirus, according to the state data. Recovery cases are determined by officials 30 days out of the onset of illness.

Who and where?

In Detroit, there are now 11,091 cases and 1,381 confirmed deaths. Not including Detroit, Wayne County has 9,450 cases and 1,098 deaths. Data from Wayne County and Detroit are reported separately. 

Macomb County has 6,769 coronavirus cases and 826 deaths. Oakland County accounts for 8,425 cases and 1,003 deaths. 

There are 3,970 cases and 70 deaths reported by the Michigan Department of Corrections. The Federal Correctional Institute reported 149 cases and 4 deaths.
