BREAKING: Pittsburgh Pirates Trade Tyler Anderson to the Seattle Mariners

After the Pittsburgh Pirates had a deal with the Philadelphia Phillies fall through on Tuesday afternoon they have traded starting pitcher Tyler Anderson to the Seattle Mariners
Tuesday afternoon the Pittsburgh Pirates appeared to have a deal in place to trade left-handed starting pitcher Tyler Anderson to the Philadelphia Phillies. Well, due to concerns about the medicals of one of the two players the Pirates were set to acquire, the trade fell through.
Later in the night on Tuesday it was reported by Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia that the New York Mets may have swooped in and made a better offer for Anderson. While another team did swoop in and make another offer to land Anderson, it was not the Mets.
Being first reported by Jeff Passan of ESPN, Anderson is headed to the West Coast. According to Passan, among multiple other reports, the Pittsburgh Pirates have traded Anderson to the Seattle Mariners.

The Pirates thought they had a deal today for Anderson with Philadelphia, but it fell through on medical review. Seattle went and got him instead.
Anderson will be a boost to the Seattle starting rotation. The Mariners currently sit 6.0 games out of first place in the American League West. However, they are just 1.0 games back of the second AL Wild Card spot.
In return for Anderson the Pittsburgh Pirates will be receiving a pair of prospects from the Mariners. One of the two prospects is 22-year-old catcher Carter Bins. FanGraphs ranks Bins as the 28th best prospect in Seattle’s deep farm system and gives him a future value of 40. In 185 plate appearances at High-A this season Bins hit for a .284/.422/.493 slash line to go with a 151 wRC+. Since being promoted to Double-A, however, Bins has struggled to the tune of a .067/.300/.167 slash line and a 51 wRC+, but this has come in the small sample since of just 40 PAs. There are some questions about his defense behind the plate but the power potential seems to be what drew Ben Cherington to Bins.
The other prospect acquired by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the trade was right-handed pitcher Joaquin Tejada. The 18-year-old Panama native has struck out 8 and allowed just 1 hit in 5 innings pitched in the DSL this season.

Signed to a one-year deal by the Pittsburgh Pirates this past offseason, Anderson has pitched 103.1 innings in 18 starts this season. He has posted a 4.35 ERA, 4.26 FIP, 5.8% walk rate, 20.0% strikeout rate and has accumulated a fWAR of 1.3. He has gone at least 6 full innings in 8 of his 18 starts, while going at least 5 full in all 18 starts. Of the 50 earned runs allowed by Anderson this season 9 of them came across 2 bad innings, one against the Braves and one against the Nationals. Outside of these two innings Anderson has a 3.65 ERA in 101.1 innings pitched.
