STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The MTA is offering riders the chance to win a $100 pre-paid cash gift card for participating in the agency’s latest customer survey.

On Tuesday, the MTA announced that launch of its Spring 2022 Customers Count Travel survey, seeking feedback from riders of New York City Transit’s buses and subways, the Long Island Rail Road, the MetroNorth Railroad and Access-A-Ride Paratransit.

The agency uses feedback gathered from such surveys to analyze existing ridership trends and identify parts of the system that are most in-need of improvement.

“We know customers are looking for safer and more reliable trips, and this survey helps us prioritize which trains and stations are on the list first for items like new LED lighting and more frequent cleanings,” said MTA Chief Customer Officer Sarah Meyer. “Tell us what you want, New York, and we will do our best to make your rides more comfortable.”

Riders who complete the survey, which is available online through Friday, June 24, will be entered for a chance to win a $100 pre-paid cash gift card.

The MTA’s last survey, which was conducted in fall 2021, received over 120,000 responses, with riders expressing concerns regarding cleanliness and public safety, prompting the agency to enhance cleaning protocols and advocate for additional police officers throughout the system.

“Both current and lapsed customers are telling us that they want to see a system that’s safe, clean, reliable and more cost effective. The good news here as the MTA is moving ahead with initiatives to address these concerns and we’re confident we can win riders back to a new and better transit system,” Meyer said.

Ridership on the MTA’s buses and subways remains well-below pre-pandemic levels, hovering around 60% of what it was before the outbreak of the coronavirus (COVID-19), according to agency data.
