George Peat and Rangers’ fixture pile-up: Ex-SFA chief says ‘I thought people would have guessed’ as he refuses to name club

GEORGE PEAT thought 'people would have guessed' which club told him not to help Rangers amid their fixture pile-up in 2008.
The ex-SFA president has reiterated he will not name the club which contacted him ten years ago.
However - the former SFA President - doesn't believe it's a big mystery.
He told the Daily Record: "I would have thought people would have guessed by now anyway.
“I was dismayed the request had even been made. At the time I was so shocked I just let it go.
"I didn’t pursue it or even discuss it with the SFA board.
"I took it as a private conversation between me and the chairman involved.”
Rangers were forced to play five games in 11 days at the climax of the 2007/08 season as they competed for a stunning quadruple.

In the end, they lost the Uefa Cup Final to Zenit and missed out on the title by three points to rivals Celtic, picking up the League Cup and Scottish Cup.
The SPL did move the Premiership finale from May 18 to May 22 so that all top-six teams could finish on the same day.
But former Airdrieonians and Stenhousemuir chief Peat insists the campaign should have been extended beyond Gers' Scottish Cup Final against Queen of the South.

He said: “In the end, we extended the season by four days to the Thursday, but that still wasn’t enough.
"Scottish clubs very seldom make European finals and I saw no issue with helping one of our clubs prepare as thoroughly as possible.
"I would have happily extended the league season a week beyond the Scottish Cup final."
