Elks Chili Cook-Off set for June 17

The San Angelo Elks Lodge annual Chili Cook-Off is set for Saturday, June 17, at 2121 S. Chadbourne St.

According to a press release from the group, the competition offers teams planning to enter the international chili cook-off championship at Terlingua a chance to earn qualifying points.

All proceeds help fund the Elks summer camp for special-needs children at Ottine, Texas.

Event registration begins at 9 a.m. and the entry fee is $18 for chili, and $5 for beans.

Volunteers from Goodfellow judge the competition, beginning with beans at noon, followed by chili at 2 p.m., and rules state all chili entries must be made from chili-grind meat.

Hamburgers will be available for $3 each starting at 11 a.m. and the public is invited to come by and have lunch with the chili teams. A cake auction and raffle will take place after the award ceremony.

A spaghetti supper for all chili cooks is planned for 6 p.m. Friday.
