She was born August 12, 1934 in Hartford Ct, the daughter of the late Edith Bergsten Isham Merkle and Victor Clarence Bergsten. After graduating from Wethersfield High School, she earned her RN degree from Hartford Hospital School of Nursing. Later she continued her education, earning the Advanced Practice degree in 1990 from the University of Colorado. Joanne had a gift for languages. She was a School Nurse Practitioner in Hartford, learning Spanish and some Laotian to help the children and their families with medical issues. Joanne also volunteered her nursing skills for years with the Glastonbury Ambulance Association and at shelters in Hartford. Joanne loved to fish, especially with her companion, the late Ken Colcombe, at their summer place in Oswego NY. Joanne leaves her children, Janet Milne Parent of Idaho, June Milne of East Hartford, and James Milne of East Hartford; grandchildren Mark Parent, Brian Parent and Alexandra Milne; great- grandchildren Brian Jr, Deztini, Jonathan and Avery; sisters Virginia “Ginne” I Clark, Priscilla I Williamson and Lorraine “Laurie” I Yankovich, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
