Publix Moves To New Home In Bloomingdale Square

On Thursday, Publix made its big move in Bloomingdale Square, relocating to the space formerly occupied by Walmart.

BRANDON, FL — On Thursday, Publix made its big move in Bloomingdale Square, relocating from its longtime storefront on the west side of the shopping center to the former home of Walmart on the south side, increasing its space from 39,795 square feet to 48,387 square feet.

In addition to increasing the size and updating the layout of the Publix, the Lakeland-based Publix Super Markets added an adjacent Publix Liquors.

The move is part of a four-year redevelopment plan unveiled by the shopping center's owner, Jacksonville-based Regency Centers Corp., for the 254,442-square-foot Bloomingdale Square, 949 E. Bloomingdale Ave. The plan was driven by Walmart moving out of the center in 2015 when construction began on the Walmart Superstore at 2140 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico.

Regency worked with with the Tampa architecture firm, api(+) - Architecture & Interior Design Firm, to re-brand the center with a modern, industrial aesthetic to better complement its mix of merchants and enhance foot traffic.

The center's owner also corrected some traffic flow issues and created signalized intersections to make it easier to enter and exit Bloomingdale Square. The intersection accommodated more than 53,100 vehicles per day.

'Then Walmart left about a year later, and we were off to the races. We're thrilled for the Bloomingdale and Brandon community to see how far this project has come."
