A Murray County man working at a construction site in Athens was killed when police said he was run over by a dump truck.

The accident occurred shortly after 9 a.m. at the site off Tallassee Road near Westchester Drive, according to Athens-Clarke police.

The investigation fund that the dump truck driven by a 50-year-old Lithonia man had emptied its load of asphalt and was backing down a road under construction.

Another worker, Dustin Jenkins, 27, of Chatsworth was painting the road and had his back to the truck, which struck and killed him, according to police.

Police said the fatality remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact Officer James Trotter at (462) 400-7326.

This was the 12th roadway fatality in Athens-Clarke County this year, according to police.
