Events

Park vehicle passes are required for all events at North Dakota and Minnesota state parks. Vehicle passes are $7 daily and $35 annually in both states.

  • Jan. 22: Nature Story Time, “Animal Homes,” 2 p.m. Turtle River State Park, 3085 Park Ave., Arvilla, N.D. What kind of homes do animals have? Program is for children 3 to 5 years old accompanied by an adult.   • Feb. 1: Ninth annual AK Vintage Snowmobile Show, Blue Moose, East Grand Forks. DNR deer goal workshops

The DNR will hold two workshops in four northwest and northern Minnesota communities beginning this month to discuss deer populations goals. Open to the public, the workshops will include small group discussions to both scope issues and create recommendations. The workshops replace the citizen advisory committees and public meetings used during the last round of goal setting in 2017. Meetings, all from 6 to 9 p.m., are set for the following dates and locations.

  • Jan. 29 and Feb. 27: Agassiz-Little Fork goal block (Deer Permit Areas 101, 103, 105, 108, 110, 114 and 114), Rainy River Community College, 1501 U.S. Highway 71, International Falls, Minn., with satellite locations in Waskish (Big Bog State Recreation Area, 55716 state Highway 72 NE), Warroad (Area DNR Office, 804 Cherne Drive NW) and St. Paul (DNR Central Office, 500 Lafayette Road).

Fishing

  • Jan. 25: 36th annual Devils Lake Volunteer Fire Department Ice Fishing Tournament, 1 to 3:30 p.m., Six-Mile Bay on Devils Lake. Must purchase an advance ticket to fish the tournament, which also qualifies for more than $325,000 in fishing and raffle prizes. Tickets aren’t available online and are sold out at many vendors. Activities begin Thursday, Jan. 23, with a soup and chili feed beginning at 6 p.m. in the Devils Lake Memorial Building, and continue through Saturday night with the raffle drawing at 7 p.m., also in the Memorial Building.   • Feb. 8: 17th annual Ice Buster Daze fishing derby, Red Lake River, Crookston. Numerous events on tap throughout the day, including fishing derby from 1 to 4 p.m. on the Red Lake River at Central Park, with registration beginning at 11 a.m. Entry fee $20 per hole, includes one sloppy Joe supper.   • Feb. 12: Adult community education class, “Catching Catfish -- How to Get Started and Be Successful,” 7 to 9 p.m., Adult Learning Center Room 5, 500 Stanford Road.
