RALEIGH - North Carolina is expected to receive its third disbursement from the federal Strategic National Stockpile of medical personal protective equipment (PPE) on March 30 and 31, according to NC Emergency Management director Mike Sprayberry.

North Carolina has requested "half a million" each of N-95 masks, procedure masks, gowns, gloves, face shields and coveralls, Sprayberry said.

Here's a breakdown of what North Carolina received in its first two disbursements based on percentages of requests filled as provided by Sprayberry.

  • 190,000 N-95 respirator masks
  • 455,000 procedure masks
  • 160,000 gloves
  • 70,000 gowns

NC National Guard members are coordinating the receipt, warehousing and distribution of PPE as they arrive in state, Sprayberry said.

His team is also aggressively pursuing other avenues to acquire PPE in the private market, Sprayberry said, and has already placed orders totaling about $19 million. Manufacturing industry leaders are coordinating with the state on plans to produce the most urgently needed PPE, including N-95 respirators, he added.
