Firefighters in Washington County, TN responded to a fire that happened just before 8:00 a.m. in Telford, TN.

According to the Jonesborough Fire Department, two people were inside the home at the time of the fire, but they escaped the home and called 911.

Fifteen firefighters from three departments, Embreeville (volunteer), Nolichucky (volunteer) and Jonesborough, responded.

When they arrived the whole roofline was full of smoke, according to Jonesborough fire lieutenant Jason Freeman.

JFD said they had to pull down some of the ceiling to battle flames. Freeman said more of the damage is to the back of the house and the roof.

It’s believed the fire started in the kitchen area where there is a wooden stove. The home is deemed a total loss.

We’re told Red Cross is assisting the homeowners.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
