Katia Uriarte, formerly a KRIS 6 News anchor, will join the Diocese of Corpus Christi as the director of communications and public relations, the diocese announced Tuesday, June 28, 2022.

The Diocese of Corpus Christi announced Uriarte as the new director of communications and public relations on Tuesday.

After 18 years as a news anchor, Uriarte confirmed her departure from KRIS 6 News with a video on Facebook.

"I just want to let you know I've decided to go a different direction in my life and work more of a day shift, kind of an 8 to 5, for Bishop Michael Mulvey," Uriarte said.

Uriarte's first day with the Diocese of Corpus Christi will be July 18, a news release stated.

"I'm so excited to be able to tell all of the stories of our Catholic parishioners, over 400,000 Catholic parishioners and students here in the Coastal Bend," Uriarte said.
