Obituary: June Dethridge Hansen, Of Bethel

BETHEL, CT — June Dethridge Hansen passed away on Feb. 25, 2021 at the age of 87. She was born on January 12, 1934 to Gladys Guleksen Dethridge and Darrell Dethridge in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY.

June attended and graduated from both Fort Hamilton High School (Magna Cum Laude) in Brooklyn, NY and Hunter College with a B. A. in the Dramatic Arts. Following those accomplishments, she married the late Carl Arthur Hansen in 1954 for twenty-seven years (before his passing in 1981.) Subsequently, the couple moved first to West Redding, and then to Bethel where they both became permanent residents.

June worked at both Grolier (now Hatchette) and General Electric Credit Corporation as a sales executive before she retired.

June, in her teen years, made one appearance as a hostess for a high school quiz bowl in the early days of television. After that high school bowl appearance, she met famed playwright and actor Noel Coward. As an adult, she was always the life of the party, a lover of live music, and a masterful storyteller. She never hesitated to help anyone in need with sage words of advice, and more if it was warranted.

June is survived by her four children: Susan H. Kelly (with her husband, James Kelly and grandson, Nicholas Kelly) and Lauren Hansen (with partner Tim Brady) both located in Danbury; and Paul and Neil Hansen, both located in Bethel. Due to COVID-19, there will be no calling hours. A private service will be done sometime in March.
