Generosity is a major part of the holidays, and though it’s only July, it’s not too early to get in the Christmas spirit.

In fact, the Winter Holiday Council is now selling businesses and individuals sponsorships for the light pole decorations that go up around Lake Loveland during the holidays.

The Winter Holiday Council is a nonprofit Loveland organization that has been operating since 1989. The organization was established when the city cut budgeting for decorations and has provided Loveland’s holiday spangle ever since.

Among the most prominent of the decorations the group puts up in city each year are the light poles along the south side of Lake Loveland. These poles have a large flame upon the top and sparkling red garland draped wrapped around the pole.

Usually the council receives all of its funding from the sale of their limited pewter ornaments. Each year they have a local Loveland artist come up with the design for the ornaments.

In order for these decorations to come to fruition again this year, the council will be selling sponsorships for individual light poles for $200. Those who buy a sponsorship will have their names placed on signs attached to the poles.

“It’s a neat tradition, but it’s quite a production,” said Anne Wood, vice president of public relations and marketing. “[It takes] more than people think.”

Additional poles will be placed at the Dwayne Webster Park as well as the south end of Lake Loveland.

Residents wishing to support the Holiday Winter Council can buy a sponsorship on the council’s website (lovelandchristmasornament.org), or buy a tree ornament online or at the Loveland Fine Art Festival from Aug. 11-13. The design for the 2018 Loveland Christmas Ornament has not yet been released.
