Nano and Advanced Materials Institute (NAMI) is participating in 2019 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, USA, showcasing its newly developed electronic products, four of which have been named CES Innovation Awards Honoree, ranking among the most innovative technologies in the world. CES is the largest and most influential global tech show and a gathering place for all those who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. More than 4,500 exhibiting companies are introducing their technological products to the marketplace. The annual CES Innovation Awards program celebrates outstanding product design and engineering in brand-new consumer technology products across 28 product categories.

Self-powered PCB

NAMI’s "Self-powered Flexible PCB for IoT Electronics” has received the award in the Wearable Technologies category. This flexible PCB is produced by printing a solid-state rechargeable lithium battery directly on the board itself, resulting in a self-powered all-in-one component for electronics. This is the first time such an approach is adopted for electronic components. The FPCB is self-powered without the need for an external power source, and can be applied in IoT electronics, such as smart credit card, and smart medical patch, etc.

Printed Sensor with Wide Applications

NAMI has received another CES Innovation Award with its "Printed Sensor and Array for Pressure Monitoring” in the Fitness, Sports and Biotech category. This thin, light-weight printed pressure sensor with high flexibility and low cost can be customized for various applications and products. It is specially designed for flexible and wearable devices and is ready for integrating to IoT-related apps. This all screen printed pressure sensor array has a wide application on different forms of products, including healthcare products like mattress and podiatry device, sportswear with insole embedded with pressure sensor, fitness gears such as boxing gloves, educational products including paper piano and interactive children’s book, as well as vehicular and pedestrian traffic counting device.

Printed Battery that Supports High Power Device

Another battery technology of NAMI, "Printed Battery with High Power Output IoT Application” is named honoree in the Smart Energy category. This printed thin and flexible primary battery is tailored for high power disposable devices, such as sensors and medical electronics. It is customizable in size, shape, and voltage output. The technology primes for high power output (3C pulse discharge), and is suitable for low-cost large scale printing fabrication for applications in wireless tracking tag, smart card, micro-current cosmetic patch, and medical patch, etc.

Compact and Fast Charge High Power Battery

NAMI’s "Compact and Fast Charge Battery for Hearing Aid Devices” is also awarded in the Smart Energy category. This compact but high-capacity battery which is customized for hearing aids not only enables a size reduction of the device, but also provides energy for up to 9 hours’ operation, and offers 15mins’ fast charging as well as wireless charging, supporting the emergence of revolutionary hearing aids and other wearable devices.

Having attained brilliant achievement with these innovative technologies in the prestigious international awards, Dr. Tracy Liu, Director of Research and Development of NAMI, said, "The award reaffirms our continuous efforts in technological research to provide commercially viable solutions for the industry, and the result of the trust from our collaborating industry partners.” It is hoped that more awarded technologies developed by NAMI will be applied and launched into the market in the future, further supporting local enterprises and benefiting the public at large.
