LANSDALE — The newest recipient of Lansdale’s Business of the Month award is one that not only survived, but thrived, during two years of COVID-19 and is better than ever post-pandemic.

Carlee Myers Personal Training LLC was named the latest winner Wednesday night by the town’s Economic Development Committee.

“She didn’t contract her business during COVID, she expanded it. Recently, you may have seen that her business physically doubled in size,” said EDC Vice President Richard Strahm.

“She needed to double the space, because that’s how quickly she has grown her business, and of course she wanted to stay here in Lansdale Borough,” he said.

Myers is a lifelong area resident and alumni of Inglewood Elementary, Penndale Middle, and North Penn High Schools, who starred on the high school’s swimming and water polo teams, Strahm told borough council on Wednesday night, and borough residents may know her dad Ken, who lives in town, and mother Gabbi who was a longtime North Penn swim coach. After earning a degree in exercise physiology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Myers came back to Lansdale and worked for roughly ten years as a physical therapy aide, before making a change.

“She decided she had a passion that went well beyond physical therapy, and she branched out to start her own personal training career, first as a mobile trainer in 2017, and then opening up her own studio on North Broad Street, just a stone’s throw outside of our borough in 2018,” Strahm said.

“She said it ate her up that she had to open outside of the borough, but that was the space that was available, that fit her needs at the time. Well, her business quickly grew, and outgrew that space,” he said.

In 2019 she moved back into Lansdale, opening a storefront at 425 West Main Street, and that year she also got married. Her new studio was up and running for just a few months before the worldwide business shutdowns caused by COVID-19, but that didn’t stop Myers.

“She, like many other Pennsylvania businesses, were shut down by our government, and the gym business was especially hard-hit because they were the last people that the government allowed to reopen,” Strahm said.

“So here we have a new wife, new business owner, she did not let that stop her. Absolutely not. She made her way through the shutdown by doing online virtual classes. She was so popular doing this, that she picked up clients nationwide,” he said.

How did she grow so quickly?  As a certified personal trainer, Myers helps people learn how to train and maintain their peak physical fitness, with a different approach for everybody.

“She’s not all about gym bodies. Her goal, and I love this, is to help people become a better version of themselves,” he said.

“She works with everybody, from teenagers looking to perform better in their high school sports, to people in their 80s looking to stay healthy and mobile. You’re going to see people of all ages, shapes, and sizes at Carlee’s gym.”

Most of her clients get intimidated and say they “just don’t know what to do” in a gym setting, so Myers and her team of trainers teach how to use equipment, track their training, or take part in group or one-on-one classes. Why did she set up shop, and then expand earlier this year, in Lansdale?

“She said it’s because it’s her hometown, and a town where her business gets great visibility. She summed it up by saying ‘I love this community,'” Strahm said.

“The motto at Carlee Myers Personal Training is: ‘Train today and transform tomorrow.’ I urge everybody to stop by and check out Carlee Myers Personal Training. Do it for yourself, and for a better tomorrow,” he said.
