Firefighters battle residential fire that displaced 19 people in Desert Hot Springs

Firefighters contained a residential fire in Desert Hot Springs that displaced 19 people Friday evening. 

The fire, reported at around 6:50 p.m., was located at the 66-700 block of 6th Street, near Mesquite Avenue, Cal Fire said on Twitter. It was contained around 7:36 p.m.

There were no reported injuries. The Red Cross and County of Riverside Emergency Management Department are helping those displaced by the fire. 

Nine out of 10 units were occupied and the building's power is out, Cal Fire said. One unit was destroyed and two units sustained smoke damage. 

Southern California Edison and Southern California Gas Company had also responded to the scene, Cal Fire said. The Desert Hot Springs Police Department helped control traffic.
