The team behind American comfort food restaurant group Dirty Bones is opening a hip hop bar in London’s Shoreditch.

Launching in February next year, Roxanne is described by the restaurant group as ‘the world’s first hip hop speakeasy’, and promises to offer a taste of 1980s New York, inspired by the city’s famous block parties and music scene.

The name Roxanne has been inspired by The Roxanne Wars, a well-documented hip hop rivalry during the mid-1980s between two female artists of the same name - Roxanne Shanté and The Real Roxanne.

It will serve a drinks-focused menu of classic cocktails and new creations as well as local beers alongside a tight food menu of smashed burgers, fries and signature dips.

The first-floor venue will be located on Whitby Street near Shoreditch High Street station with an interior modelled on a New York loft-style space with decks and a small stage to create a house party vibe. It will also host a calendar of live events showcasing new artists and hip hop’s upcoming talent.

In October the restaurant group made a permanent return to Carnaby’s Kingly Court with the opening of a new restaurant in the site that was formerly home to the Wright Brothers restaurant.
