Memphis football won't have to wait long to see former coach Mike Norvell.

The Tigers and Florida State announced Tuesday they will meet in Tallahassee on Sept 14, 2024. It'll be the first meeting between the Tigers and Norvell, who coached at Memphis from 2016-19.

Tigers coach Ryan Silverfield served as an assistant under Norvell all four seasons. Silverfield celebrated the news by posting a shared GIF on Twitter of he and Norvell opening pizza boxes with the other school's logo.

"See you in 2024 my friend! @Coach_Norvell," Silverfield said on Twitter.

Norvell had the most successful four-year run of any Memphis coach in program history. He was 38-16, oversaw two 10-win seasons and led the Tigers to a 12-2 record in 2019 that ended with an AAC Championship and a trip to the Cotton Bowl.

Norvell was hired by FSU immediately after the AAC Championship Game. Silverfield made his coaching debut in the Cotton Bowl, a 53-39 loss to Penn State.

Memphis and FSU haven't met since 1990 and they've played 18 total games, with FSU leading the series 10-7-1.

The Tigers now have at least one Power Five opponent scheduled every year through 2029 except for 2027. The Tigers will also face Mississippi State, Arkansas and Missouri during that span.
