Chelsea Man Charged In Boston Public Garden Rape

CHELSEA, MA — A Chelsea man was arrested early Wednesday and charged in a sexual assault in the Boston Public Garden Nov. 8. Francisco Romero, 38, faces charges of aggravated rape, assault by means of a dangerous weapon and kidnapping, Boston police said.

Shortly after 2 a.m. Nov. 8, officers responded to a reported sexual assault near Charles Street. The victim told officers she encountered Romero near Bromfield Street, where he forcefully brought her through the Boston Common into the Public Garden and sexually assaulted her, police said.

Romero was arrested around 5:15 a.m. Wednesday on Liberty Street in Chelsea. He will be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court.
