Monday night update

Tallahassee Police are investigating a Monday evening shooting after finding a victim with a gunshot wound in the roadway on 6th Avenue.

At 6:08 p.m., TPD responded to a shooting near the intersection of 6th Avenue and Old Bainbridge Road.

"Upon arrival, officers located one victim suffering from a gunshot wound in the roadway," TPD spokesman Damon Miller said in a news release.

The victim was taken to a local hospital with series injuries.

Per policy, TPD provided few details about the circumstances of the shooting and did not include the name, age or gender of the victim. The agency — which said it will provide all further updates via press release — divulges few details about active investigations and does not release any information about victims, pointing to its interpretation of Marsy's Law.

The incident is the community's 58th shooting in 2019. So far, 45 people have been injured and 15 killed in gun violence, according a Tallahassee Democrat analysis of gun violence.

After a rash of shootings earlier in the year and a pike over the summer, the pace has slowed. There were two shootings in October, and this is the first in November.

This case has been assigned to investigators with TPD's Violent Crimes Unit. Investigators are asking anyone with information to call (850) 891-4200 or Crime Stoppers at (850) 574-TIPS.
