Vacuum cleaners aren't the most exciting of purchases, but find a good one and it’ll make keeping your home free from dust, dirt and pet hair much, much easier.

However, many of the top models don’t come cheap, with price tags upward of £150, and some even nearing £600.

We’re always on the lookout for bargains and there are few places quite as affordable as Aldi. The budget supermarket has fast become known for its Specialbuys range, with recent launches including a velvet footstool, a churro maker and a scalloped bed. As it turns out, Aldi is a hotspot for affordable interiors.

The latest bargain is a home appliance – a wet and dry vacuum cleaner from its in-house brand Scheppach.

Ideal for your next big DIY project in lockdown, or for everyday cleaning, it promises to make your life easier, whether you’re clearing out your shed or you’ve been inspired by the latest interiors trend.

Costing £64.99 – eye-wateringly less than the cost of a vacuum cleaner from a leading brand – you’ll have to be quick, as once it launches online on 25 February, we suspect it won't stay in stock for long. It’s available exclusively online too, so you can’t pick one up in-store.

You can trust our independent round-ups. We may earn commission from some of the retailers, but we never allow this to influence selections, which are formed from real-world testing and expert advice. This revenue helps to fund journalism across The Independent.

Should you miss out, we have plenty of vacuum cleaner recommendations to cater to every need.

If you’re keen to find an affordable design, this Amazon basics cylinder corded vacuum cleaner (£55.99, Amazon.co.uk) came highly rated by our reviewer in our guide to the best corded vacuum cleaners.

(Amazon)

“We found it’s significantly better at sucking up everything from dust to pet hair, as well as larger debris such as spilt rice or lentils, than other vacs in this price range (and many more expensive ones too) even when the dust canister is full,” they said, adding that, “there’s variable suction, thanks to the slider at the front, and a combination floor head that we found worked across all floor types”.

However, if you’re in the market for a cordless design design to take the hassle out of vacuuming, our reviewers loved the Dyson V11 absolute (£599.99, Argos.co.uk) which admittedly isn’t cheap but proved a worthwhile investment for our reviewer.

They said: “It effortlessly sucks up debris of all sizes (from fine dust to spilt cereal) on all floor types (with no need to change heads) and the filters mean it’s particularly wowsers for allergy sufferers.”

Charging time is four-and-a-half hours, which will give you a full hour’s use on the minimum setting, and it even comes with an LED screen to tell you how much time you have left.
